Woman Flies 300 Animals to Safety

Sali Gear is a real-life animal rescuer

When disaster strikes, everyone suffers, but sometimes it's harder to save the pets. Many shelters don't allow pets during times of natural disasters, leaving many homeless. Fortunately some people help out as best as they can, and in the case of Sali Gear, there are true heroes for animals.

As Hurricane Irma approached, the Virginia Beach resident planned to rescue cats and dogs from the area on a daily basis until she had them safe and sound, but the flight delays and other issues made it so difficult that eventually she had to just transport 300 animals all at once! Gear chartered a plane to do just that and get the pets to safety.
