As a kid, I always wanted to be a veterinarian. Don't all kids at some point? Who doesn't love animals? If you had allergies, you might not have the same desire, but most kids do like at least some animals. The idea of putting them to sleep deterred me, as I'm sure it did many people. Today there is a shortage of veterinarians, particularly in rural areas where livestock specialties are needed.
Farmers are rushing their livestock to vets in nearby cities as more and more areas go without rural vets, which is distressing, especially with the hardships that farmers are already enduring right now. It's a terrible time to have even more stress in the mix, but this does present some major opportunities for potential vets or veterinarians who want to serve these communities.
Are you a veterinarian looking for some new scenery? This might be a great time to check out the farming angle! What other animal issues have you read about this week? Share them in the chat.
