Where I live, iguanas are considered to be pets. I know a few people who have iguanas and of course they have names, habitats and daily attention from their human companions. But in different places of the world, iguanas are seen as a food source or even a pest problem that has to be dealt with, such as in Florida, where residents have been asked to kill the animals.
The green iguanas of Florida are not native to the area, and have been brought to the state via ships and as pets that people let go in the wild. The invasive species cause problems in the area for both humans and other wildlife, which is why authorities are asking for residents to actually kill the animals.
Do you think this is taking it a bit too far? Would you be willing to kill iguanas? What do you think?
