Does your cat chat with you? Do you frequently hear your furry feline chattering up a storm in your direction? Have you ever wondered just what in the heck they were really trying to tell you in the end? Well guess no more dear friends!
Top Four Things Your Cat is Trying to Tell You
Do you know what your cat is really trying to tell you? If you have struggled before in the past to understand that cat chat, perhaps these four things will help you realize how to better communicate with your kitty!
1. Body rubs and mid toned meows mean: pet me, cuddle me, I love you.
2. Short meows, almost like quips or squeaks mean: I jumped and almost missed the counter, boy that was scary, or I had to get up and didn’t want to; I am annoyed.
3. Long, wailing meows mean: I am scared, hungry, tired, agitated, about to get in a fight, I really need you now!
4. Short meows with a high tone mean: hey, over here, I am looking at you…hey over here, pay attention to what I say, even if my cat chat is boring!
Why Cats are so Vocal
This type of behavior actually emanates from their ancestors, larger and wild cats from Africa. In a pride (as cats live in the wild), there is actually much communication that goes on frequently. From huffing, which is a sign of affection, submission and dominance, to puffing, and meowing, most of the time the majority of vocalization and communication exists between the babies and the mother. Domesticated cats are seemingly infantile forever. They don’t ever need to worry about eating or hunting; they need only worry about cat chatting with their owners to get the things that they need or that they want.
This Siamese Cat Just Wants Attention
In the video (below) you can see a classic example of the attention grabbing meow that most cats will exhibit. Notice how the tail curls like a question mark – the kitty sign of affection – and how the cat is stretching and showing off his body to get petted while he cat chats. Most cat language is actually rather easy to decipher. The cat that is in the video in so many words is cat chatting to the owner the conveyance of, “Pick me up. I am cute. I need love. I love you…so hurry up and freaking pet me and love me already!”
