Etsy for Animals
We are seeing a revolution in the way that people think about the world. In particular, we are all becoming more aware of our impact on the planet, and are learning to change our habits and lifestyles in order to help restore a balance to the world that we live in. This seems to be having a positive knock on effect on how we live our lives in general, with a general trend of social awareness beginning to emerge in our culture.
This is particularly true while we are shopping, with more and more of us seeking out 'green', 'organic' and 'handmade' products. Perhaps this is why the handmade crafting site Etsy is so popular. On Etsy, individual artisans can sell their goods direct to the public, keeping traditional handmade crafts alive, and supporting artists around the world.
What does this have to do with animals, you may ask. Well, that social awareness has seeped right through to the core of Etsy artists and customers alike, and a new group has emerged that donate a percentage of their sales to animal charities. The Etsy for Animals group consists of over 500 crafters, who are all using their medium to try to raise money and awareness for various animal charities.
If you are looking for an animal themed gift that also lets you donate to a good cause, then check out some of these Etsy artists contributing to EFA.
AnnRan paints beautiful portraits of animals. If you send her a photo of your pet, she can create a detailed pencil sketch that captures every whisker and hair in amazing detail.
Lacewood creates wooden spoons with hand burnt designs. This cute paw print design is a great way to identify which spoon is used for the dog food.
Check out all of the members and their great creations here.

Wow, I'm honored! Thank you so much for featuring my art and my Etsy shop. I'm proud to be a member of EFA, so thanks for the plug for them as well.
And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that EFA and EtsyVeg members are promoting the Humane Society of the US' Spay Day 2009, tomorrow (Feb 24th). Participating shopkeepers will be offering specials in their shops to draw attention to Spay Day and animals in need. Here's a link to my blog post about it: http://bit.ly/VAbj9

Hello, and Wow! I am so
Hello, and Wow! I am so delighted that you've chosen to write about Etsy for Animals! It's especially timely, as tomorrow - Tuesday February 24th - is National Spay Day (humanesociety.org/spayday), and we, along with EtsyVeg, have teamed up with the Humane Society to raise awareness about the need to spay & neuter companion animals (especially cats, dogs, and rabbits). Many of us will be offering special sales in an effort to raise as much money as possible for a wide variety of animal shelters and rescue organizations across the country!
Thank you also for showcasing my spoon - I am honored that you chose to feature my work here! As an aside, in your article the link for the name of my shop, Lacewood, goes to AnnRan's shop instead - if you want to fix that, my shop address is Lacewood.etsy.com . :-) But in any case, I am thrilled that you chose to include a picture of one of my spoons - and so pleased that you took the time to write about Etsy for Animals! Thanks so much. -- Akire
